DL/T 596 "Preventive Test Code for Electric Power Equipment" requires low-voltage operation tests on circuit breakers and recording the current waveforms and operating voltages of opening and closing coils. Field O&M personnel often face a problem: traditional methods rely on multimeters and manual timing, making it difficult to capture transient changes in coil current, and judgments on mechanism jamming or spring fatigue are mostly based on experience. The KC-8800 switch characteristic tester incorporates the acquisition of coil current and operating voltage into the same test process, automatically completing the low-voltage operation test and providing O&M personnel with comparable waveform data.
Some sites use a combination of a millisecond meter and a current clamp: the millisecond meter handles time measurement, while the current clamp separately observes coil current. The two have different time references, making it difficult to align waveforms with the time axis. The KC-8800 synchronously acquires opening/closing times, travel curves, and coil current within the same instrument, with a consistent time reference, making it easy to correlate abnormal inflection points in the current waveform with mechanical action moments. Another type of solution only tests time parameters without recording coil current and resistance, resulting in limited ability to detect mechanism hazards. In addition to time parameters, the KC-8800 synchronously records opening/closing coil current waveforms and resistance, helping to determine whether the mechanism has hazards such as jamming or spring fatigue.
During parameter setting, the switch type, sensor type, and travel parameters must be accurately selected on the instrument; parameters inconsistent with the actual situation will distort the travel curve. Sensor installation should avoid the interference area of mechanism action, and the selection of linear sensors and rotary sensors must match the circuit breaker transmission mode. Before testing, confirm that the instrument has sufficient battery power; after long-term storage, it is recommended to power on and check before use again. Keep the instrument storage environment dry and ventilated, with a temperature of -10℃ to 50℃ and humidity not exceeding 85%RH; avoid severe vibration and rain ingress during transportation.
Suitable for mechanical characteristic testing of high-voltage switchgear in substations and circuit breakers after maintenance, and also for periodic comparison of mechanism action status by O&M teams. After testing, the coil current waveforms and travel curves can be retained as historical data for reference in subsequent maintenance.
